I’m trying something new today : first, I’m writing in the morning, fresh-headed, rather than tired at midnight after editing pictures for hours. (I’m SLOW at editing.) But I’m also trying to write my article in english first. I often find that my english versions sound very phony : I think this is because they’re translated. First draft should sound better. I already think it does!
So, when I recently saw the new a england shades, I thought « Oh, good, they’re autumn shades, I can delay the expense. » That was some very obvious wishful thinking. When I saw them online my heart flipped, I needed to swatch them on my own hands, and I also needed my a england collection to be complete again. I even tweeted @PolishCanada to know why the 4-pieces set was sold out when all four shades were available. (Which they fixed right away, and I got my four babies for the price of three. I love NailPolishCanada for their awesome customer service.)
The four bottles looked so beautiful together I wanted to use them all in the same nail art. The theme was pretty obvious. Have you seen the beautiful a england roses?
I chose to go over the dark colors with the brighter ones, but the opposite would have been just as marvelous. Here are the bases, Sleeping Palace, and Fated Prince for the accent nail.
Isn’t Sleeping Palace incredibly rich? It’s a beauiful charcoal-plum (found in any charcoal-plum tree!) holo. These new holos are more linear, so you can expect a stronger holo than Saint George, Tristam and all those famous beauties. I love the way the holo looks like a rich golden shimmer in the cloudy light pictures. It’s a two coaters, very easy to remove.
Fated Prince isn’t as much of a unique color, but I love it anyways, it’s just totally my kind of color. I actually own a 95% dupe in my collection, Color Club’s Revvvolution. I compared them (on a nail wheel and then didn’t take pictures for you, oops) and Fated Prince is a bit paler and has a stronger holo. Revvvolution is more opaque, you can get away with one coat, and it’s perfect in two; I used three coats of Fated Prince for this mani. It’s a beautiful charcoal holo, and the holo looks a bit stronger on it than Sleeping Palace. Also easy to remove.
We’re getting to the exciting part : the roooses! I don’t own (yet) any stamping plates, so I had to paint them with a tiny paintbrush. I don’t think these polishes would have shown on top of each other with stamping anyway. I had to paint them all twice to build up some thickness.
For the next pictures, I’m not even sure which were taken in the sun and which were taken in artificial light. I think the ones with the most glossy reflects are the ones taken in artificial light. Sorry for those, by the way, but I wanted to take pictures in every angle possible since these colors are so shifting.
I used Briar Rose over Sleeping Palace, for a more subtle look : in certain angles, you can barely see the roses. In other ones though the chromey aspect of this pink is really in your face! For the accent nail, I used Rose Bower, for a contrasted effect.
I love it so much! I just which I had longer nails. They’re in such bad shape these days, they keep breaking and splitting. The middle finger is so short I couldn’t even shape it properly. Even thought I’m very impatient to swatch Briar Rose and Rose Bower, I’ll wait until my nails are longer and in a pretty shape.
I’m sure I talked about this before on the blog but this is such a useful tip I want to share it again. In Canada, the 60mL bottle of thinner by OPI retails for approximately $10. This is so much cheaper than polish, and it’s not any different from the thinner they’ll sell next year and the year after. So when I use fancy polishes for nail art, instead of wasting 4-5 drops of polish on every nail, I « revive » the same old drop of polish with thinner for the whole nail. I used one drop of polish for the roses on each nail, two coats everywhere, and you can see I took my time while drawing them.
These babies can be bought with a nice discount on NailPolishCanada, or from one of a england’s networkers. For some reason, they aren’t up on a england’s website? Also, another color from the same collection will be released soon, and I cannot wait for it! Go have a look at Briarwood on Ommorphia’s blog. (With this one, I’ll have 36 a englands, which I will conveniently be able to store in four rows of nine. This sentence probably sounds very crazy to non-NPAs. But I’m actually sort of excited about it.)
Have a good day ladies! xx
